The latest Hyundai Elantra is packed with new options and features. The new lineup features one of the best standard engine and performance packages for the price. The Elantra also recently endured a fresh update, and it has one of the highest reliability ratings in the compact class. The CVT is now standard with the base engine, and while the manual transmission has been discontinued, the automatic transmission and new drivetrains are smooth to drive. There's enough seating for five in this compact car, and the trims have different engine options, leading up to over 200 horsepower.  

New Changes for the 2020 Elantra

The latest Elantra model range features a comfortable ride with plush seating, infotainment, and smart options, as well as LATCH seat connectors for children. The Elantra also has new powertrain options and upgrades for smart sensors. The CVT model is now considered the base trim for the Elantra as well. You'll also get lane departure warnings, rear cross traffic alerts, and rearview camera sensors with the latest Elantra so that you can cruise with confidence around Terrell.  


Hyundai does an amazing job at maximizing fuel economy and power delivery. There are several powertrain options available with the updated Hyundai sedan, including a 2.0-cylinder four-cylinder engine that puts out 147 horsepower. You can opt for the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Sport option allows you to get 201 horsepower from a 1.6-liter engine. You'll get up to 41 mpg on the highway with the new Elantra, as estimated by the EPA. The Sport trim can net 33 mpg on the highway. For your daily commute, the base engine offers plenty of power and fuel economy, but the Elantra Eco is the best for efficiency.


The interior has been slightly redesigned in the latest Elantra. The infotainment is straightforward and high-tech in the latest design. Hyundai can seat up to five people in the sedan, although it's in the compact class. There is a ton of leg room built into the latest design. There are a few upgrades as well with the premium packages, including leather upholstery, heated seats, and power-adjustable seats.

The cargo room is also much larger than the previous model. The hatchback has the most room with 24.9 cubic feet of space. You can fold down the seats to get more space with the hatchback version as well.  


In the base edition, you'll get a 5-inch touch screen with Bluetooth, 6-speaker stereo, and lots of safety features. You'll get a forward collision alert system, blind spot monitoring, rearview camera sensors, and parking assist. There are plenty of upgrades available, including a 7-inch and 8-inch touch screen options. The infotainment system connects to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The premium packages include wireless device charging, satellite radio, HD radio, and Clari-Fi music restoration technology, as well as the Blue Link telematics system.  

Safety Features

For the value, there are a ton of new safety features included in the base edition of the new Hyundai Elantra. You can view all your alerts in the center console on the LCD display. With the upgraded trims, you'll get more sensors and alerts as well. These sensors include blind spot monitoring and GPS navigation. Elantra received a high safety rating for its class thanks to its smart safety options and voice-activated command system. You don't have to touch your phone to make calls, texts, listen to music, or open a variety of other apps while driving.
